LEVELS
Fundamentals: If you’re new to yoga, or to Iyengar Yoga, we suggest you begin here. The class focuses on the basic asanas (i.e. poses), actions, and approaches of Iyengar yoga, and helps students understand some of general context and philosophy behind it. For some students, this is the right class for them for an extended period. Yoga Horizons’ instructors can help students assess if they would continue to excel in a Continuing class.
Continuing: For students with fundamentals experience who are ready for greater challenge and subtlety. Inversions or their alternatives are practiced.
FOCUS
Aging Gracefully: Intended for students of all ages, participants in this class range from their 40 to 90s! A desire to address issues related to fostering both physical and mental flexibility and agility draw the diverse and lively group together. This session is intended for students who gained a basic understanding of Iyengar Yoga through the Fundamental classes.
Extended: A deeper exploration of posture, pranayama and philosophy. Inversions or their alternatives are practiced.
Scoliosis & Back Care: Safe practices and modifications to support back health for those with scoliosis and other spinal conditions. All levels welcome. Individual assessment recommended for beginners: contact Britta.

A class reservation can be cancelled up to 5 minutes before it starts through the Wellness Living account. Payments will be credited to your account and may be used to attend other classes.
Yoga Horizons will strive to provide as much advance notice of a class cancellation due to a studio or instructor issue. Any fees already paid will be immediately applied back to a student’s account.
-
With the exception of back care sessions, all Yoga Horizons classes are recorded using the Zoom video conferencing platform. Links to access a class recording will be emailed to registered students shortly after each session ends. Recordings are available for 6 days after the class. If you don’t receive a recording link email after a class, check to make sure your Wellness Living account is set to receive NOTIFICATIONS from Yoga Horizons.

Class Preparation
-
Yoga Horizons is located on the first floor of 4619 N Ravenswood in Suite 102. The building has a grey facade and is on the east side of the Metra tracks between Wilson and Leland.
If you press #102 on the front door intercom, it will ring the studio so that the teacher can then buzz you in. You can also look up Yoga Horizons in the intercom’s directory.
PARKING: There is almost always street parking available on Ravenswood Ave, either on the east side, near the building, or the west side on the other side of the Metra tracks. Between 9am-5pm on weekdays, you’ll need a Zone 20 parking permit. These are available, for free, in the studio.
METRA: The studio is located 1/2 block from the Ravenswood Metra station on the Union Pacific North line.
CTA BROWN LINE: The Montrose and Damen stations on the CTA Brown Line are both about a 10-12 minute walk away.
BIKE: There are a few bike racks in front of and near the building and many more, including some covered, under the Metra tracks on Leland 1/2 block away.
-
In order to change, set up your mat and props, and to check-in with your instructor, we recommend arriving at the studio between 10-15 minutes before it starts.
-
Yoga Horizons is a fully equipped studio; all props/tools used during class are provided at no additional cost. If you have your own mat/props and wish to use it/them, you are welcome to do so.
Yoga Horizons is always happy to advise on what props to secure for your home practice, as well as suggest where they may be purchased. Feel free to email us (hello@yhchicago.com)
-
There are women’s and men’s restrooms down the hall from the Yoga Horizons studio that can be used to change. It is easier, however, to come as prepared as possible. There are no lockers or showers. Valuables and personal items may be safely kept in the studio during class.
-
Please wear shorts or footless legging/yoga pants. It is important for the instructor to be able to see your knees and elbows.
Long baggy pants are not recommended. Bare feet and an empty stomach are important. We request that you keep jewelry and perfumes to a minimum.
-
We recommend that, before class starts, you set up an environment in your home with an open space, a mat, and if possible, access to a wall. You can use a locked door as wall space. If available, have a chair, belt, block, bolster, and blankets. If you don’t have yoga props around, use in-home alternatives. We recommend logging in 5-10 minutes before start time to ensure you’re connected and are ready to begin promptly at the begging of the session.
Yoga Horizons is always happy to advise on what props to secure for your home use, as well as suggest where they may be purchased. Feel free to email us (hello@yhchicago.com)

If you’re new to Zoom, this short video provides an overview the various user controls. This video explains more about the different view options. Finally, this video explains how to “pin” a window, such as the one the instructor is in so that you only see that.
