Student Profile: David Rosenzweig
What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
Downward dog. It's not that I like doing it, because I definitely don't love it. But over time I have come to appreciate how one simple-seeming pose can have so much subtlety and complexity. I'm constantly amazed at discovering new ways in which the pose draws on the entire body and relationships and links between all of its parts.
How long have you been coming to Yoga Horizons (and/or Yoga Circle, if applicable)? What keeps you coming back?
For about a year, since we moved back to Chicago. I like all of the teachers I've had and enjoy experiencing their different approaches by mixing up the classes I attend.
What draws you to Iyengar yoga?
II started Iyengar classes and 1:1 therapeutic sessions at a studio in Singapore, when nothing else was working to recover fully from a knee injury and surgery. Over the course of several months, I achieved relief that no amount of PT was able to bring. Since then, I have enjoyed continuing to learn about my body, alignment, and how every part of me relates to everything else. I feel like I've achieved a greater understanding of myself than ever before.
What is one thing you have learned about life, the universe, and/or everything from your yoga practice?
Everything is connected to everything else in one way or another.
Do you have a favorite spot to eat / hang out in the neighborhood? What do you like about it?
Guilty pleasure: a donut after class from Stan's Donuts at the Marianos (on Lawrence) down the street.
