Where to Begin?

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll

We want to make it easy, welcoming and not intimidating to begin yoga. I find that new students have often unspoken reservations likely created by advertising images of “athleisure” clothing brands implying you have to be more physically nimble, thin, or hip and cool than you may consider yourself to be. Yoga is and should be for everyone. Yoga Horizons has long-time students of many sizes, body types, ages (into their 90s!), and identities and gladly so. If you’re new to yoga, or have never studied Iyengar Yoga before, we recommend joining one of the several Fundmentals classes offered each week. I’ve found in 20+ years of practice that “progress” is often achieved by a regular return to or focus on the basics. Yoga Horizons Fundamentals classes are designed to introduce you to the principles, poses and context of yoga in the Iyengar tradition. Whether you spend a few weeks, month, or years in a Fundamentals class, I also hope that you’ll begin to learn how to learn while starting to experience some of the benefits. As always, if you have any questions or would like to talk with someone before attending, please don’t hesitate to connect via email (hello@yhchicago.com) or by leaving a message so we can call you back at: (312) 363-3229.
